Dr. Amitis Sarbaz
DDS, MS, Orthodontist Cert.
About Amitis
An international journey. A commitment to thoughtful care.
I am a Canadian orthodontist with an international educational and clinical background. I completed my initial dental education at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran, before pursuing advanced academic and clinical training in the United States.
My journey includes an orthodontic research fellowship at CTOR Academy, a Master of Science in Oral Biology from New York University, and orthodontic specialty training in Atlanta, Georgia. During specialty training, I served for two years as a Teaching Assistant, supporting residents and faculty in clinical education and treatment planning.
I am currently pursuing an Advanced Fellowship in Non-Surgical Complex Orthodontic Cases at CTOR Academy, working directly with Dr. Mani Alikhani on advanced treatment approaches, complex case management, and interdisciplinary care. I also contribute to teaching and professional lectures at CTOR Academy.

Clinical Practice & Patient Care
Clinical experience in both Canada and the United States has exposed me to different healthcare environments and approaches to teamwork. Growing up with two parents who are dental professionals also gave me early insight into clinical care, practice operations, and the responsibilities of serving patients.
These experiences have taught me to listen carefully, remain curious, and consider different perspectives before reaching conclusions.
“Listening. Understanding. Public trust.”
Grounding regulatory discussions in real clinical experience, continuous scientific learning, and public interest stewardship.

Why I am seeking Council service
Thoughtful decisions begin with listening.
Behind every policy, standard, and regulatory decision is a person placing their trust in dental care. I am seeking election to Council to contribute my experience in clinical practice, research, education, and collaboration to decisions that serve the public interest.
I would approach Council service with preparation, integrity, openness, and respect for the responsibilities of professional regulation.
Regulatory principle
“Council members serve the public interest. They do not act as representatives of a profession, specialty, association, or geographic area.”

Professional collaboration & continuous learning
Engaging with colleagues, interdisciplinary teams, and the broader healthcare community.
Vision
A commitment to patient safety, inclusion, and trust.
Patient safety and public protection
Keep patient well-being, safe care, and public trust at the centre of Council discussions.
Equity and inclusion
Listen respectfully to different experiences and recognize that people encounter healthcare systems in different ways.
Evidence and continuous learning
Bring a commitment to research, professional education, and thoughtful evaluation of emerging ideas.
Accountability and collaboration
Prepare carefully, communicate respectfully, and contribute constructively to collective decision-making.

Areas for constructive discussion
Topics to explore — subject to evidence and Council’s mandate.
These are introduced as topics Dr. Sarbaz hopes to explore, subject to evidence, Council’s mandate, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Safe, capable dental teams
Explore whether additional training pathways and appropriately defined responsibilities for Level II dental assistants could support safe orthodontic care. Any discussion must consider competencies, supervision, patient safety, and regulatory standards.

Interdisciplinary care and airway-related concerns
Encourage evidence-based education and collaboration involving orthodontists, sleep physicians, ENT specialists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals. Support appropriate recognition and referral of patients who may benefit from further assessment, while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
